NSW Home Saver Rebates

Overview

The NSW Home Saver Rebates program rewards households who make their home more water and energy efficient with rebates of up to $1,500 for water tanks, $300 for energy efficient hot water systems, $200 for dual-flush toilets and $150 for hot water circulators.

You could also get a $35 payment for having a second fridge removed and recycled under the fridge buyback program.

Key eligibility

To apply for rebates under the program, you must:

  • Be the owner of the residential property where the item is installed.
  • Have purchased and installed the eligible items in your home before you apply.
  • Send in the appropriate application forms.

Homeowners, landlords and renters are eligible to apply for the rebates. If you are renting, you will need your landlord's permission before some of the items are installed.

A number of other conditions apply. Check your eligibility on the NSW Government Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water website.

Items covered

The residential rebate program includes rebates for:

  • Water tanks - up to $500 for tanks not connected to your internal plumbing and up to $1,500 for rainwater tanks connected to toilets and washing machines.
  • Hot water systems - $300 to switch from an electric storage hot water system to a 5-star or higher solar system or a heat pump or gas hot water system with 20 or more Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
  • Dual-flush toilet - $200 for buying a 4-star dual-flush toilet suite.
  • Hot Water Circulator - $150 for buying a hot water circulator which diverts the cold water from hot water pipes for reuse until the hot water comes through.
  • Fridge Buyback free collection of a second fridge from your home and a payment of $35 to you if the removal involves 6 stairs or less. If you have between 7 and 20 stairs, your fridge will be picked up free of charge but you will not receive the $35 payment. For homes with more than 20 steps, you will need to negotiate the pickup fee with the removalist before collection.

Under the scheme you can claim one of each separate item up to a total of $1,500 for each household.
