Solar Bonus Scheme for NSW
The Solar Bonus Scheme for NSW rewards households and businesses that install renewable energy systems such as solar power (photovoltaic - PV) systems or wind turbines by providing a credit for the electricity they generate.
Please note that the NSW Governments information on the Solar Bonus Scheme will continue to be updated and is the best source for information on the Scheme.
The NSW scheme is a gross feed-in tariff rate which means you are paid for all the electricity that your PV system or wind turbine generates.
The NSW feed-in tariff is available to customers with new and existing eligible renewable power connections.
You will be credited for all the energy your system generates at the rate of 60 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh).
For further information about the scheme, read the Solar Bonus Scheme Questions and Answers.
The Solar Bonus Scheme website also provides useful information on what factors to consider before installing a solar (PV) system or wind turbine.
Customers should contact electricity businesses who are administering the Solar Bonus Scheme directly for information on their metering and connection requirements and for individual advice on eligibility under the Scheme.
If you receive any payments from Centrelink, you may need to check with them if your credits or payments have any impact on your Centrelink payments.
It is possible under some circumstances that credits or payments you receive for power generated by solar panels on your residence may be included as assessable for income tax. Further information should be sought from the Australian Taxation Office or your accountant or tax agent.
If you are registered for GST and install a renewable energy system with the intention of furthering a business, then GST will be applied to any income generated.
You could also be eligible for financial assistance to help with the cost of installing a small-scale solar or wind power system.
As an NSW resident, you may also be eligible for other rebates and assistance from the NSW Government and the Australian Government.
Your local government may also have programs to help you with living greener, Contact your local council directly to find out what assistance you may be eligible for.
Make sure that you understand the full program information and then apply to your electricity retailer to receive the feed-in tariff under the scheme.
